Janette Mason Presents: The Music of Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan featuring Juliet Roberts and Vimala Rowe

World-class arranger, composer and pianist Janette Mason will pay homage to two of the most iconic vocalists of the 20th century. The ‘First Queen of Song’ Ella Fitzgerald and ‘The Divine One’ Sarah Vaughan occupy a treasured place in the popular music consciousness. Known for their exquisite phrasing and expression, they were both seminal interpreters of The Great American Songbook.
Described by The Guardian as ‘a band leader of pugnacious flair and genuine unpredictability’, Janette Mason has arranged and played for the likes of Oasis, Mica Paris, and k.d Lang. She is currently the musical director of The Hideaway in South London. Recreating the rich orchestral arrangements of the original recordings, Mason will be leading a five-piece band comprised of some of the UK’s leading musicians. She will be joined by vocalists Juliet Roberts and Vimala Rowe. A British singer of Grenadian descent, Juliet Roberts was a featured vocalist on The Funk Master’s top ten hit ‘It’s Over’. Her twenty-year long career has spanned jazz, soul, funk and house music. She has recorded and performed with icons such as Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan, and Miles Davis. Roberts was also the lead vocalist for British jazz-dance ensemble Working Week. Vimala Rowe has been described by London Jazz News as ‘a singer of quite astonishing versatility and adaptability’. Having previously played the role of Billie Holliday in Alex Webb’s Cafe Society Swing cabaret show, Rowe has stunned audiences with her interpretive skill and command of North Indian classical technique. She is a favourite collaborator of jazz virtuosos John Etheridge and Jonathan Gee.

The band will also feature:
